11th COMPASS Awards Dinner

This evening, my sis and I attended the annual awards dinner presented by COMPASS (Composers and Authors Society of Singapore) at the Padang and Collyer Rooms of Raffles City Convention Centre. The guest-of-honour was Mr. Chan Soo Sen, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Like previous years, COMPASS gave out awards such as Top Local English Pop Song, Top Local Soundtrack, Top Local Publisher of the Year etc. Artists such as Dick Lee was awarded Top Local Composer of the Year; JJ Lin was COMPASS Young Composer of the Year; and Stefanie Sun was Top Local Artiste of the Year.

At the start of the dinner, when we found out that Stefanie Sun was coming and also sitting at our table (our table is under eWorld Publishing, which belongs to her mentors, twin brothers Lee Wei Song and Lee Si Song), we were very excited and eagerly waiting for her arrival.

When she finally appeared, I got ready my digital camera, and snapped pictures of her. We also got to take a picture with her. She looks exactly the same as on TV, magazines or newspapers. She was sitting directly opposite us so we both got a very good view of her. Cameramen and fans soon appeared at our table to snap her pictures.

We also saw and heard JJ Lin perform live in a sing-and-play act, singing his own composition, and it was very good and touching. Needless to say, we both, idol-hunters also took a photo with him, as well as Joey Chua, Chai Li-Lian, Jeremy Monteiro and Liang Wern Fook. My camera batteries nearly died on me, but luckily, I managed to get the shots done.

It was truly a star-gazing evening. The food was delicious, but I think my eyes also received a feast of its own!

For My Mum...

Today is Mother's Day.

I would like to use this day to thank my mum, who's always been there for me.

Mum, thank you very much for giving birth to me, and for taking such good care of me all this while, without a single complaint. I know it's really tough juggling loads of housework and at the same time, taking care of me, and my sister and brother, but you did a really fantastic job. I won't be here today if not for your unconditional love. No one can take care of me as well as you do.

Thank you also for the clothes you sewed and knitted for me; and the handphone pouches you made for me, even though I don't use them anymore; and also the beautiful beaded figurines that you so carefully threaded for me, just because I like them. They really mean a lot to me.

Thank you for sending me to music lessons. Even though you don't know a thing about music, everytime after each lesson, you would sit patiently with me and go through what the teacher has taught. Without your patience, guidance and support, I would not be where I am today.

Thank you also for the delicious dishes that you whipped up every meal. I know that sometimes I have complained about not liking certain dishes, but I know I shouldn't have done that. I should have understood that it's very difficult and sometimes frustrating to think of what to cook for every meal, every single day.

Thank you for taking care of me when I was sick, for bringing me to the doctor, and for reminding me to take my medication.

Thank you for your tolerance when I raised my voice at you. It was very wrong of me, and I'm truly sorry.

Therefore, I would like to say...

Mum, thank you for being there for me. I'm really proud to have a mum like you, and I love you. Happy Mother's Day!
